If I hadn’t known it wasn’t Freddie…

I didn’t really have any great expectations of the show. I just wanted to hear Freddie Mercury’s voice. And if I hadn’t known, I really would have thought it was Freddie himself. Marc Martel is really up there with the legend. He put on an amazing show, he’s an incredible artist, and I thoroughly recommend his concerts.

Would definitely go again!

The important thing to remember is what Marc Martel says in the concert: he isn’t a Freddie Mercury double and he isn’t trying to be one, so there’s no fake moustache, no flamboyant clothes and so on. He just sings Queen songs, he loves them just as much as all the fans do, and he has fun performing them – and his performances are fantastic. The show was less spectacular as the ones I’m used to seeing in the Barclaycard Arena, but that made it even better because it was just so incredibly well-done. The atmosphere was amazing. It was so good that I was in tears. Marc’s voice is simply the best match out of all the Freddie Mercury cover singers. It was awesome! I would definitely go again – it was just so much fun.

Incredibly close to the original

Anyone who covers Queen songs actually shouldn’t try to imitate Freddie Mercury’s incredible voice. But Marc Martel’s range is so close to the original, unbelievably close, that the entire show gave me goosebumps – and I’ve been a Queen fan since the 70s. When I closed my eyes, I could hardly believe what I was hearing. The songs on the piano were particularly good. The band was great as well – all musicians putting their heart and soul into the performance, not just there as a backing. Thank you so much – I’ll definitely be back next year.
